Main Damage Control

This is a good overview of the Prinz Eugen's damage control center on the Oberes Plattformdeck, compartment X 8.2, looking forward.

Rotating almost 180 degrees from the above photo, we are now facing aft in the Prinz Eugen's damage control center.

Looking to the portside forward in the Prinz Eugen's damage control center on the Oberes Plattformdeck, compartment X 8.2, one clearly sees the curve of the 30mm armored Panzerdeck immediately above. The Boatswain's store room is located on the other side of the 'turtle-back' Panzerdeck.

The water intrusion panel located in the Prinz Eugen's damage control center, showing the the Oberes Platformdeck, Unteres Plattformdeck, and the Doppelboden. The crew would stick different colored pegs in each compartment to indicate the tank's condition. On the right side of the panel are counter flooding charts to help the crew quickly determine how to move the tank's contents around in case of hull damage.

Looking directly aft in the Prinz Eugen's damage control center, Oberes Plattformdeck, compartment X 8.2, the panel with the fire-fighting connections throughout the lower decks of the ship is visible.

This appears to be a bell-announciator for several of the pump groups within the Prinz Eugen. Photo taken in the damage control center.

On the portside, forward corner of the Prinz Eugen's damage control center is a panel with indicator lights for each bunker and tank compartment in the Prinz Eugen's hold. The color of the compartment on the panel indicated the compartment's contents. Directly above the panel is the steeply sloped armor of the Panzerdeck.

The gauge to the left is a list indicator, on the upper right of the photo is a trim indicator, and in the middle are two damage control phones. The heavily riveted plate at the top is the sloped Panzerdeck. This photo is looking 90 degrees to the right of the prior photo. Photo taken looking forward in the damage control center.

Looking directly aft in the Prinz Eugen's damage control center, Oberes Plattformdeck, compartment X 8.2, one views the trim and list switchbox for multiple locations on board the ship, including the bridge, damage control center, the machinery control platform and the auxiliary machinery control platform. From here the crew could enable or disable each device in case repairs were needed.

Opening the cover of the trim and list switchbox (shown in the closed position in the prior photo), this is what one sees. Photo taken in the Prinz Eugen's damage control center.

The covers are opened for two devices located under the speaker phones to show their components. Photo taken in the Prinz Eugen's damage control center.

The cover has been pulled off another switchbox in the Prinz Eugen's damage control center, Oberes Plattformdeck, compartment X 8.2. We are looking at the switchboxes located on the aft bulkhead. The wiring diagram for each switchbox is attached to the cover for easy access. The switchbox on the left has 1 and 2 AMP circuits for various locations throughout the ship, including the forward artillery station, the list dampening control and the foretop observation deck.
